REALTOR® Raises Over $15,000 for Local Shelter with Car Rally

David Halls of Royal LePage Royal City Realty in Guelph, Ontario, and his wife Robin-Lee Norris recently hosted an exciting “WICked Car Rally” in support of their participation in the upcoming Machu Picchu Challenge for Shelter.

Halls, Norris and close friends, Alex and Susan Frasson and Kevin McKitrick, recruited an enthusiastic 54 participants, organized in 16 teams. Each team was challenged to raise funds in support of the Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis Centre (hence the acronym for “WICked” Car Rally) and went above and beyond fundraising over $15,000.

Each team ran a total of three separate routes – Riddles and Clues, Navigation, and Scavenger Hunt – while participating in a concurrent Poker Run. Local mayor Cam Guthrie proudly attended to wave the checkered flag. The most memorable moment of the day was a very close call between a Maserati and a classic restored MG. “I’d say we were about 1 centimetre away from a VERY expensive fender bender,” joked Halls.

After the races were complete, participants and their guests were invited to celebrate until midnight at a party featuring a live band, candy bar, and delicious food.

“We couldn’t have been more pleased with the day,” said Halls. “We raised such an outstanding amount of money for our local shelter and already have people asking to sign up for next year. I think we can safely call that a success.”

Participants in the Machu Picchu Challenge for Shelter will be trekking to the lost city of Machu Picchu, Peru in August, 2015. Trekkers from Royal LePage offices across Canada must raise $5,000 each for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation and cover their own travel costs.
