Over 144 REALTORS® and business associates participated in the 13th annual charity golf tournament this month to raise money for HOAP – Home Ownership Affordability Partnership and the Karan Barker Memorial Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of event organizers, volunteers and donors, REALTORS® raised approximately $8,400. This brings the total raised by this event since 1997 to $153,400, in support of local charities.
“The tournament was incredibly successful,” said Chairman Bill Kopac. “It was great to see so many REALTORS® and their friends, clients and business associates come out to support these worthy causes.”
Even with the economic uncertainty the event sold out within three weeks of tickets going on sale. “We had a waiting list of REALTORS® who wished to play this year,” said Chairman Bill Kopac. “Some of those who were unable to play volunteered their time at the event.”
Hole sponsorships, contest sponsors and prize donors contributed to the success of the tournament. Through the generous support and community participation of several corporate sponsors, this annual event was brought to a new level.
HOAP is a unique affordable housing initiative, which helps families in social housing become home owners. The scholarship fund provides selected children and grandchildren of RAHB members and staff with funding for post-secondary education.
REALTORS® are active fundraisers and volunteers throughout the year and this tournament is only one example of their extensive community involvement. They volunteer their time and energy all year round to improve the social and economic well-being of the communities in which they work and live.
