REALTORS® at CENTURY 21 Miller Real Estate Ltd. in Oakville, Ontario, took advantage of sunny skies May 7 and held a charity car wash for those who wanted to support a good cause and get their wheels shined up.
For nearly four hours on the day before Mother’s Day, about 50 people from the office volunteered their time to help raise money for the Easter Seals, CENTURY 21’s charity of choice. The Easter Seals’ mission is to enhance the quality of life, self-esteem and self-determination of Canadians living with disabilities.
Organizer and REALTOR® Hans Taal said about $2,000 was raised that day to help send children living with a disability to Easter Seals camps. For $20, people got a shiny car and some food. There was also a raffle, exhibits and a little bit of dancing as cheerleaders from the Northern Football Conference’s Oakville Longhorns helped liven up the day.
This was the fifth year for the annual Klean Up for the Kids car wash. What started as a modest fundraiser with about 10 cars stopping by continues to grow each year. Taal estimated just over 50 cars came for a cleaning on the Saturday.
“After the fifth year it gets a little easier to organize everything,” said Taal, who is also the chair of the Easter Seals’ committee that helps send children to camp.
“It’s just very satisfying to see the kids go to camp. They are challenged in everyday life so it’s great to see them have fun with other kids and, at the same time, give the parents some relief.”
While the charity car wash was a one-off event, REALTORS® at CENTURY 21 Miller Real Estate Ltd. give back to the Easter Seals year-round by donating money from every sale. This year’s fundraising goal is $30,000.
