Association of Regina REALTORS® Supports Youth in Their Community

This year, the Association of Regina REALTORS® (ARR) is celebrating their 100th anniversary! With this significant milestone, the ARR is taking the opportunity to deepen their relationship with the community with the introduction of two new programs and to continue its tradition of supporting youth in their region.

REALTORS® Citizenship Award

In conjunction with the Regina public and Catholic schools, the ARR has established a Grade 8 Student Citizenship Award, to recognize a Grade 8 student in each elementary school in the city who has made an exemplary contribution to the school and their community. The awards will be announced at Grade 8 farewell ceremonies each June. Recipients will have their names proudly displayed on award plaques in their schools and will receive a special certificate.

Partnership with the North Central Family Centre

The ARR and the North Central Family Centre (NCFC) have an ongoing partnership to help youth in Regina’s inner city. The partnership has been in place since 2005 when the Youth Empowerment Program began. The goal of the program is to beautify the neighbourhood and make it safer for residents, while providing learning opportunities and job experience for youth. The program employs 15-20 inner city youth to provide services such as snow removal, year round odd jobs, painting dumpsters, and operating an arts and crafts gallery in Regina’s north central neighbourhood.

Since the partnership began, the ARR has provided more than $30,000 in assistance to this local charity. At their 100th Anniversary Community Reception on May 30, 2012, the Association announced a commitment to assist the NCFC in making improvements to its courtyard, for the benefit of North Central families.

Scholarships

Since 1977, the ARR has invested in the futures of two deserving University of Regina (U of R) students each year. To date, more than 60 university students have been selected to receive the ARR’s annual scholarship, which have now reached $1,000 in value each. The award is made on the basis of high academic standing and demonstrated ability in other areas such as leadership, athletics, and the fine arts.

Michelle Korpan and Kaitlyn Hughes (pictured to the right) are the recipients of the 2012 scholarships. Michelle is a previous recipient of this scholarship. Kaitlyn Hughes is currently pursuing a BSc with a major in Chemistry. She also plays on the U of R volleyball team. Michelle Korpan is pursuing a BA with a major in Religious Studies.
